Paris and Pompidou

back of a caravan on the street of Paris

Below – a series of photographs from the amazing Centre Pompidou which was the inspirational idea by President Georges Pompidou

He wanted somewhere in the centre of Paris which focused completely on modern and contemporary creations, a mix of visual arts, cinema, theatre, music and literature

Marco Zanuso 50’s Italian Furniture

Alvar Aalto

Arne Jacobsen

What an amazing collection of work, I could have stayed there for days and it was amazing to see pieces from Fernard Leger, Catharina Van Eetvelde, Jacques Villegles’ torn posters and Marc Rothko – what amazing colour and texture.

The week was a total colour and design saturation, my head is buzzing with ideas and I want to go back – now.  For all the delight inside the building this photo was taken outside – what a comparison but I love how the weather has marked to extra large ducts!

Paris 2011

The studio trip to Paris was amazing – starting with the overnight train to London and meeting everyone at St Pancras to catch the Eurostar I settled myself and sketch book in hand looked forward to seeing the French countryside – just through the tunnel are wires fences and I couldn’t resist trying to capture them in 5 second sketches!

We arrived in Paris at the Gare du Nord and again more lines and wires.

After finding the hotel we set off back into Paris and came up from the Metro at the The Avenue des Champs-Élysées, below are just some of the sights

we walked and walked and saw some incredible windows and sights, more to follow …………………….

Trend Forecasting

The new project for semester two has started and what better way than with a little jaunt to Paris!!! Yes we’re off to Premiere Vision and Indigo for all things “Future Forecasting” .

For the next 6 weeks were taking one of the trends forecasted for this year -I’ve chosen Summer 2011.  Seaside Stripes is my title and  I’ve to research and develop my own ideas and present a fully explored sketchbook, development boards and printed textile samples.  The colours forecasted by Textile View are aquatic blues and greens, black and white with pinks corals and oranges and inspired by the sea side and underwater!  I’ve started by drawing and photographing in the East Neuk of Fife – just on my doorstep as well.  Thanks to the fishermen of Fife for some amazing boats …..

Tonight see’s me on the sleeper to London and then Eurostar to Paris tomorrow – Wednesday we’re at Premiere Vision and Thursday is the day to see as much as possible! I cant wait – so until the weekend Im signing out and look forward to telling you all about it.
