making marks with ink and screens

yesterday I showed some images from ‘sketch to stitch’ in the evening I worked on ‘sketch to print’ – more to follow when its finished 🙂

random shots from my workroom – threads and development work

I’m volunteering today at DCA print studio – I love it, just to be around the printing presses, paper and inks is brilliant. Sometimes I get the opportunity to talk to the other artists too and this is so inspiring, everyone I’ve met there ( I’ve been going for two years now) is always so friendly and encouraging and the staff are incredibly knowledgable. It was there I learned my first screen printing with Scott. Want to learn? they have amazing evening classes, weekend classes and taster sessions.

mark making in stitch and print

hello again 🙂 last week and this have just merged and I’m scared at  how fast time is whizzing by – I’ve been sewing banners, volunteering at DCA print studio, making marks, screen printing at DCA , gardening, being a model for the first time at 50! – (still think Debbie should have used a younger model) and even cooking yummy food! here are some of the marks I’ve been making with stitch and I’ve started printing at home as well as the DCA, at home I’ve been using acid dyes with gorgeous silk I wish I could work in the print room at uni over the summer …………. all that space and a dye lab to play in – more soon

a month of marks – my mixed media marks

working with the shells and pebbles from my treasure collection as my inspiration I started my mark making following the lines, spots and dots within the shells and stones. I used a variety of media, watercolour paint, ink, graphite, gesso and pencil applied by brush, roller, ruling pen and bamboo stick – more tomorrow…..

a month of marks – playing with images

take three photographs with natures marks and open them in adobe photoshop

Open up a new file the same size as the photos and drag the images into the new file layering them on top of each other. Now along the top of photoshop there are headings; file, edit, image, enhance, layer, select, filter view , window. Click on window and scroll down to layers and click this. At the side you’ll notice a box headed LAYERS appears – under this you should see all the different photos which you dragged into the one file, now for the fun – on the top photograph, layer three, click the box it should turn blue. Now go to the section in this LAYERS box which says normal and click on the arrow to the right and a load of blending layers should appear – now have fun and watch as things change and blend when you’re happy with a combination save it as a jpeg otherwise the file will be huge and take up lots of space on your hard drive 🙂

this is the three images above blended in the same file using the blending tools in adobe photoshop

as above but using different blending tools
